Our energy efficiency projects in the ceramic sector lead to the following positive impacts:

  • Energy efficiency improvements (+/-55%).
  • Reuse of the heat created from the manufacture of the bricks for the drying process will help save signifcation greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs)
  • Improve the quality of life in the community by increasing the revenue streams because the products will be of higher quality and can be sold for more
  • Use of better mining systems to reduce the amount of erosion and impact on local vegetation and forests
  • Reduced health impacts due to reduced air pollution
  • Local capacity building for reduction of future environmental impacts, technology transfer, and business skills for the micro businesses.
This technology conversion will provide this hard-working population a real viable solution to address their cycle of poverty, child labor and health problems whiel also addressing one of the biggest problems the world has ever seen-climate change.  Thus we believe the Nemocon project is a good example of how the Clean Development Mechanism can be a tool for important socio-economic and environmental impacts in Latin America.
