Today is a big day for Kincentricity. Roughly four months after we launched Kincentricity we have secured our first seed investment. This comes on the heels of signing our first emissions reduction purchase agreement (ERPA) with Carbon Clear just a few days ago as well for our first project in Nemocon, Colombia.
The investment is led by First Light Ventures which is a seed fund of Gray Ghost Ventures. Our experience with the First Light team has been exceptional as compared with my prior experiences raising funding for previous sustainable ventures, including my most recent one, 3rdWhale. First Light was faster in coming to a yes after a rigorous but not lengthy due diligence process, but more importantly for us, they are highly values aligned. That is, First Light, and their parent Gray Ghost are social investors focused on helping to seed and grow startups with a social mission. The mission of Gray Ghost is:
“To invest collaboratively in innovative, early stage enterprises that contribute to the well-being of low-income communities in emerging markets and provide an attractive financial return.”
As is the case with our first ERPA partner, Carbon Clear, Gray Ghost is committed to making a real difference in the world by leveraging their money in the hopes of doing well by doing good. We share their values and as such, it has been a joy to work with their team because while we all hope to make significant financial returns from our endeavors, we are driven by a higher purpose than pure profit maximization at all costs.
We at Kincentricity or very optimistic about the potential we have to make a real difference in communities throughout Latin America by developing carbon offset projects which alleviate poverty, address health issues such as respiratory disease and minimize child labor. The investment from First Light will help us accelerate our early growth and hopefully position us for our next funding round to enable us to scale even more.
